A cross-platform delivery agent and innovation network for advancing urban and rural resilience through social, economic and technological transformation, working together with you to create a better future.

Rethinking Sustainability

We face increasing levels of threat to our society and environment. The global pandemic has highlighted a need to re-think routes to a more sustainable future.

Creative collaboration can help redirect our current trajectory, moving towards a more equitable, long-term prosperity by fully embracing the interdependence of people, place, community and planet.

Research is at the heart of what we do. We apply forward-thinking analysis to devise innovative sustainability strategies, recognizing the need for systemic change at a local level to meet the scale of the global challenge.

“Think global, act local”.  For every project we establish a consortium of local partners in a global knowledge sharing network, applying bottom-up planning to develop exemplary future-proofed urban and rural projects.

We promote real, in-depth community dialogue to build a common purpose amongst stakeholders, empowering communities to create a better future for themselves. Without this no amount of technical innovation or aesthetic ingenuity will deliver a truly successful project.

Integral to the Integer process is the dissemination of ideas and delivery mechanisms, the stimulation of debate and the transfer of knowledge. Innovation through prototyping.

About us

The implementation of exemplar sustainable developments is underpinned by extensive communications and consultation with the specific aim of widening the mainstream adoption of INTEGER principles.

We believe that delivering truly resilient environments requires engagement with social, economic and environmental issues across a wider scope than currently prevails within the construction industry. INTEGER looks beyond narrow carbon-accounting.

Since its inception in the UK in 1996, Integer has seen much of its pioneering work in green building technology absorbed into mainstream practice.

Over one hundred organizations have participated as INTEGER partners, and the programme has received support from hundreds of suppliers of innovative systems, products and services.

This flexible, open network has generated a dynamic for change, creating shared opportunities for all involved.

Integer has more recently worked extensively in the Greater China region, where there is increasing recognition of the need to plan sustainably.

We believe that sustainable development and management require not only outstanding design skill and effective coordination, but also a strategic business approach to sustainable investment. This holistic approach has delivered commercial success for many leading global enterprises.

Our Story

INTEGER Ltd began in 1996 in the UK as an international action research network dedicated to innovation in building through the use of intelligent and green technologies to meet the sustainability challenges of the 21st century. Key early projects included the pioneering Integer Millennium House, a case study low energy house completed in 1998 at the Building Research Establishment headquarters in Watford.  Other UK projects followed, including six new commercial housing projects and a ‘deep’ retrofit of a tower block in London’s Westminster. These projects won numerous awards for their innovations in sustainability, including the Building for Life Gold Award, Sustainable Social Housing Project of the Year, European Intelligent Building of the Year and a Civic Trust Award.

Integer began in 2000 with the design and construction of the renowned Integer Hong Kong Pavilion. This research and education centre promoted the use of sustainable design and intelligent technologies with the aim of improving the quality of residential development in Hong Kong. This was followed in 2005 by the Kunming Expo – an action research programme for developing a sustainable housing and lifestyle model appropriate for the fast urbanization of the south western region of China. Located in Kunming, this master plan and series of case study houses was the initial stage of the first eco-town to be built in southern China.
